Oh what a month it has been, both last month and the start of this month has really been the biggest struggle of greedy douchy corporations vs consumers. All of our rights and freedoms as humans are so easily being taken away so corporations can continue to triple in profits when they are already sky high and almost no understanding of how the world works as a consumer and just assume every “pirate” is horrible.

I own well over 450 DVD’s and Blu-Ray discs and religiously go to Future Shop or Best Buy and pick up the newest movie that I enjoy every Tuesday (if there is one) as entertainment is my love and joy. I really can’t get enough of movies and TV shows. But to a movie industry or those who represent them really care? hell no, if I download a single movie tomorrow because I’m not sure if I want to buy it yet or not and they catch me.. boom upto 5 years in prison and $250,000 fine! Everyone within the entertainment and music industry is stuck in old times, you all fail to embrace the internet and make your contact available WORLDWIDE as the lack of said content to the world is the reason most pirate to begin with.

For the example of MegaCorportation, it is undisputed that thousands and maybe millions used it to “pirate” content, but if you look at movie sales just in theaters alone. You will see a movie such as Avatar, one of the highest grossing movies of all time also be one of the most pirated.. how can the companies not put two-and-two together, who told the MPAA that someone streaming a horrible cam version of a movie never lead to them watching it in theaters or eventually purchasing it online? Whoever did is probably 70 and has no idea what they are doing and just swimming in the money they are making year after year despite the horrific movies that continue to come out like The American. Just awful. The corrections that need to happen for coporations to continue to make their billions of dollars is simple.

1) get rid of country locks! There is nothing more frustrating then seeing a clip posted on facebook or links around the internet to new tv shows or movies that I enjoy and then get the message “this content isn’t available in your country” .. what am I supposed to do next if you won’t let me legally watch it?

2) Due to lack of jobs around the world many people like starting websites.. you’ve seen how well content lockers can do in terms of revenue, what if all that revenue generated went back to the content creators but then all the websites around the world advertising the product to view or download for free (ad based) also got a small cut (around $3/1000 views or something like that).. it would stop movie/TV show piracy in it’s tracks and give tons of cheap advertising the industry would never have before.

3) Just make better content and don’t get butt hurt when the horrible movies flop. THEY SHOULD. So, terrible things stop getting made to make money and room for better content… blaming it on piracy is horrible thinking.

If the above are used or even a variation of the above are used it would make everyone mostly happy. But that isn’t an end all patch for other industries. The RIAA is constantly attacking music sites for pirating the newest albums of music, but you also don’t understand everyone knows how to pirate music, it’s quick and easy… yet music sales are still growing year after year.. why? because as Neil Young said it, Piracy is the new radio it helps small artists get exposure and makes already big artists get out there more.. Again, here are ways I believe (in a modified form) could stop or lower “piracy”

1) iheartradio is a giant thing in America, when I went there I tried it out.. there are lots of other services but again most are blocked from other countries. DISABLE THE LOCKS you’re hurting nothing but yourselves being in a closed environment

2) Pricing for an album that really includes nothing special/makes psychical copy worth purchasing needs to have a lower price point especially for bigger bands were the radio just shoves it down your throat until you want to puke everytime it comes on again.

3) not sure what else would really help the industry, it’s doing great already just remove the USA only roadblocks and it would help a lot.

Now for the thing that is left out whenever piracy is talked about..

MERCHANDISE

Piracy whether it turns into a movie ticket sale or a DVD sale is always debate able depending on the income of the consumer who watched it. But what isn’t debate able is merchandise, if the show or movie or even band is good, then you have shirt sales and bobble head sales or for something like Harry Potter you have just unlimited amounts of things that fans can buy. I personally buy collectables which are often over $200 each.. I buy them because I loved the movie it was in or the quote that was said within a show or something that made me want to have it on a shirt.. people ask what it’s from and I tell them, often that turns into them watching a show and buying merchandise..

All this goes to show you is that piracy is a good thing, piracy is hurting no one as everyone will ALWAYS share content in some form or another.. taking country locks off all content or at least most countries will allow for more advertising revenue to be made by movie and music industries and lead to happier consumers which will then continue to lead to more and more sales of QUALITY content. Continuing to alienate everyone like has been going on this year is going to send the industry, consumers, and internet into a black hole where no one will win.

Hello Internet,

It annoys me to say that free speech appears to have almost come to an end after comedy central has completely altered the new South Park episode because it mentions “Mohammed” and they took it upon them selves to bleep out the entire ending of the show which Matt and Trey never intended upon. A Muslim activist group has made threats against both of them saying they will most likely be killed because of the way they portrayed “Mohammed”…

Comedy Central has since refused to re-air the episode and banned it from being viewed on southparkstudios.com.

It was a good episode and should be seen -> http://www.southparkstudios.com/guide/episodes/s14e06-201

Also, today Matt and Trey have put up a statement on the South Park studios saying “In the 14 years we’ve been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn’t stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn’t some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle’s customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we’ll see what happens to it. ”

Please let me know your thoughts!
